The actual humans behind 42tutoring

No call-centre tutors, no rotating strangers. Just two Physics specialists and the person who keeps it all running, who genuinely like teaching this stuff and genuinely want your child to get it.

"I started 42tutoring with one mission: to help as many people as possible actually understand Physics, not just scrape through it. After 25 years of teaching, I'm more convinced than ever that almost every student can do this. Most just need the right technique, and someone who refuses to give up on them."

Dr Alison Camacho

Founder & A-Level Physics Tutor

My first degree is in Physics from Bristol, and my PhD (from Cardiff) was about using plasmas to etch semiconductors, which is every bit as niche as it sounds. Outside Physics I love astronomy, walking my dogs Belle and Barney, riding my horse Hope, and making a happy mess with resin art. Yes, my kitchen is astronomy-themed and glows in the dark. No, I won't be explaining myself.

  • Physics degree, University of Bristol
  • PhD, Cardiff University
  • 25+ years teaching experience
  • Member of the Institute of Physics
Mr Bryan Murphy, A-Level Physics Tutor at 42tutoring

Mr Bryan Murphy

A-Level Physics Tutor

Bryan is from Manchester, studied at Cambridge (graduating in 1982), and has well over 35 years of teaching behind him. He is, by some distance, the most entertaining person you'll meet to explain electromagnetic induction, and that fun, slightly theatrical style is exactly why students remember his lessons. He drives an electric car charged from the solar panels on his own roof, keeps chickens, and dotes on his poodles Ollie and Penny.

  • Cambridge University graduate
  • 35+ years teaching experience
  • Has guided students into Oxford & Cambridge
Megan Penhorwood, Operations & Support at 42tutoring

Megan Penhorwood

Operations & Support

Megan is usually the first person you'll speak to, and parents tend to relax the moment they do. She has nine years working with young people, a first-class degree in Musical Theatre, and a genuine belief that learning should be fun and engaging. When she isn't keeping 42tutoring running smoothly, you'll find her curled up with a book or at band practice.

What we actually believe

The handful of ideas that shape every lesson we teach.

"Not a Physics person" is almost always wrong

We've watched far too many bright students talk themselves out of a grade they were perfectly capable of. Given the right technique, almost everyone can do this.

Hard work deserves the right method

Effort on its own rarely moves a grade. Effort pointed at the marks students actually lose moves it fast. That's the whole job.

Understood beats judged, every time

A student who feels understood will outwork a student who feels judged. So we teach the human first and the Physics second, and somehow the Physics goes better for it.

See how we can help your child raise their Physics grade

We know what it's like to watch a bright, hard-working teenager start to believe they're "just not a Physics person." They almost always are. They're usually just missing the technique, and that we can fix.
